HOSPITAL STAFF PRESENTS “NEEDLES AND SPLINTS” MUSICAL VARIETY SHOW TO RAISE FUNDS FOR EQUIPMENT
The public is invited to a musical show “Needles and Splints Encore: Through the Years” 7 pm May 3 at the Parsons Auditorium in Milford. Milford Hospital employees, medical staff, family and friends of the hospital will perform the variety show to raise funds for capital equipment.
“Needles and Splints” stems from an idea started in 1952 by the Milford Hospital Auxiliary to produce a variety show utilizing local talent to help raise money for new equipment for the hospital. For tickets or information, call (203) 783-1143.
“A city-wide contest was held in 1952 to help find a suitable name for this special show,” said Richard Popilowski, director of Development of Milford Hospital. “The prize-winning title selected was “Needles and Splints,” submitted by Mrs. William Quirk, Jr. For her idea, a prize of $5 was awarded to her.”
The show spanned over 30 years and raised significant funds each year that it was produced to help purchase such items as operating room tables, x-ray machines, suction pumps, bassinettes, ophthalmoscopes, sterilizers, surgical instruments, anesthesia equipment as well as air conditioners for rooms throughout the hospital, he added.
“Milford Hospital is continuing the friendly spirit that was generated on and off the stage for these successful shows in our community by having another musical variety show,” Popilowski said. “This special fundraising event will again raise funds to support capital equipment needs so Milford Hospital can continue to deliver the highest quality of treatment and care for each patient that comes through our doors.”
